HUMPTY-DUMPTY

Certain decisions we make in life have the finality of pulling the trigger. No second chances. But, in order not to sound overly ominous, let me call this the “Humpty-Dumpty effect.”

...Humpty-Dumpty sat on a wall; Humpty-Dumpty had a great fall. And it does not really matter why he fell --maybe even for a very good cause? -- because all that matters is the fact that he fell, and that nothing in this world can now restore him to his former self.

Come to think of it, Humpty-Dumpty is perhaps the saddest tale ever told. It is surely “a story of more woe than that of Juliet and her Romeo,” no offense to Shakespeare. When somebody says “Humpty-Dumpty” in your presence, tip your fedora as a token of respect…
