“The
best weapon against an enemy is another enemy.”
This Nietzschean aphorism is a
vast improvement on the more familiar adage: The enemy of my enemy is my
friend. There is no pretense of friendship toward your enemy here, but the
punch line is all intact, etched in perennial copper. After all, what are enemies
for, except to be used? Bravo, Nietzsche!
On the other hand, thinking over
Nietzsche’s concept of the noble enemy, it seems like the best friend a
man can have is a noble enemy.
This whole thing may be true with
regard to individuals, but it definitely reaches its apogee among world’s
nations… Spoken extra-morally…
