Benjamin
Franklin once jokingly wrote that “in this world
nothing is certain, but death and taxes.” In the context of my
philosophical thinking on the necessity of the absolute authority of God by
definition, I may paraphrase his famous quip by having this “metaphysical
certitude” cover God as
well, not with an intent of light-hearted irreverence, but in order to cement
this fact’s importance in the most effective, proverbial form.
Therefore, from now on, fiant “God, death, and taxes!”
