Considering that Nietzsche’s
mental illness is entirely consistent with the textbook descriptions of
clinically deep-rooted disorders, including inordinate megalomania, painfully
manifesting itself, here and there, in the otherwise perfect passages of Ecce
Homo, and elsewhere, the
big question now is whether mental illness is a defect-in-itself, or a natural
state of mind of genius.
In other words, had Nietzsche’s
eventual clinical pathology been staying dormant in his mind all along over the
years, oddly accounting for his abnormal intellectual brilliance and
pathologically incisive discernment? Perhaps! One thing is certain, however. I
would rather take all Nietzsche’s manias, lunacies, randomnesses, rants and
ravings of a madman, wrapped together in a package, bearing the inscription: Here
is An Original Brilliant Thinker,--- any time, over the insipid “normalcy”
of the mediocrity!
